Brothers Raised Too – The Story Behind Our Ethical Eggs

Welcome to Planton Farm! If you’ve just scanned the QR code by our eggs, thank you for caring about where your food comes from. We believe in transparency and are proud to share the story behind our “Brothers Raised Too” eggs.

The Problem with Traditional Egg Production

In most commercial egg production, only female chicks are kept for laying eggs. Sadly, male chicks—who can’t lay eggs and aren’t bred for meat—are often culled shortly after hatching. This is a widespread practice, but we believe there’s a better way.

Our Solution: Raising Brothers Too

At Planton Farm, we do things differently. We use dual-purpose breeds, so both our hens and their brothers have a valued place on the farm.

  • Female chicks grow up to lay the delicious, organic eggs you see in store.
  • Male chicks—the “brothers”—are raised for meat, living healthy, natural lives on pasture.

Our chickens roam freely, foraging on fresh grass and insects, and are moved regularly to new pasture. This ensures high welfare standards and helps regenerate our soils and support biodiversity.

Why It Matters

By choosing eggs from farms that raise both hens and their brothers, you’re supporting a more ethical and sustainable food system. This approach:

  • Respects animal life and welfare
  • Reduces waste and unnecessary loss of life
  • Supports regenerative farming that’s good for the land, animals, and people
